Information Letter no. 35-2007

Dear Member Federations,

During our small rendez-vous on the eve of the FIE Congress in Madrid some federations asked about more details for the first European Championships for fencers under 23 of age because they have to consider this for their budgets for 2008.

The EFC/CEE Competition Commission proposed the following rules for this first event which of course can be modified for the second edition in 2009.

1.     There will be only individual competitions in all 6 weapons.

2.     No special age limits are foreseen. In 2008 all athletes, born on 1st January 1985 and later can participate, no younger athletes as 13 years old can participate at the championship.

3.     The participation per country is limited to 4 fencers per weapon.

4.     Referees have to be submitted according the quotas stated by the FIE rules, i.e. 1-4 fencers no referee, 5-9 fencers one referee, 10 fencers and more 2 referees.

5.     Initial seating rules will be decided later, in consideration are FIE senior ranking and FIE junior ranking.

6.     The registration fee will be maximum 30 EUR per entry.

7.     The date is fixed for 9 to 11 May 2008 in Como (Italy).

This is a first information on this subject; modifications will be published in time before the championships in Como.

Best regards,

Max W.F. Geuter
