Information Letter no. 01-2008

Dear Member Federations,

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you about the death of one of our oldest Olympic participants,

Mrs. Margit Kristian (SRB)

who died yesterday at the age of 95 years in her home town Mali Idjos.

She participated at the Berlin Olympic Games 1936 and was a friend of the late Ellen Mueller-Preis, who also died a few months ago.

Visiting the first European Cadet Championships in Novi Sad last March, she was very pleased to see the young fencers in competition, and remembered a lot of events where she participated. Some letters with the former FIE president Paul Anspach was still a nice memory for her.

The European Fencing Confederation sends its deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Mrs. Kristian and to the Fencing Federation of Serbia.
