Dear Member Federations,

The European Fencing Confederation is greatly saddened to learn of the death of Witold Woyda, at the age of 68, just 5 days before this 69th birthday, in New York.

Witold, an Olympic foil champion fencer for his native Poland, participated since Rome 1960 in four Olympic Games and won a silver medal in 1964 in Tokyo, in Mexico City 1968 he won a bronze medal with his team and crowned his sports career 1972 in Munich with gold medals in the individual and team events.

After a coaching and journalism period in Italy he moved 1978 to the USA and became a successful businessman. Witold died after two years of lung cancer.

The European Fencing Confederation sends its deepest sympathy and condolences to his family in the United States and to the Fencing Federation of Poland.
