Information Letter no. 20-2008

Dear Member Federations,

It is again with great sadness that we have to inform you of the death of another great man in fencing,

Laszlo Nedeczky (HUN)

who passed away last Sunday at the age of 95.

The European Fencing Confederation lost a real friend who donated most of his life to our beloved sport. Many of us remember this man who created quite a lot of world famous competitions in Hungary, like the Balaton Championships, the Tokay Express, the Martini Cup and Veterans World Championships. Besides this he had multi-functional positions within the Hungarian Fencing Federation since 1946, when after World War II he, as one of the reorganisers of his federation, initiated the BVSC fencing club, which produced world famous fencers. Also a first class sabre fencer in his youth he preferred to put all his efforts into organising – with enormous results.

In 2004 his work was also recognized by the FIE when he became member of honour.

H worked for fencing until the last day of his life!

The European Fencing Confederation sends its deepest sympathy and condolences to the Nedeczky Family and to the Hungarian Fencing Federation.
