On Saturday, 17.12.2011, the German Fencing Federation (DFB) celebrated its 100th anniversary in the famous Town Hall of Frankfurt am Main.
Highlights of the celebration were the presence of the President of the German Federal Republic, Christian Wulff, the Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, Dr. Thomas Bach, IOC member Claudia Bokel, FIE President Alisher Usmanov, EFC/CEE President Frantisek Janda, Lord Mayor of Frankfurt, Petra Roth, FIE General Secretary Maxim Paramonov, Gordon Rapp, DFB-President, and many other presidents of international and national sports federations.
The main speech was held by Dr. Thomas Bach, himself one of the former German Olympic medallists. Also President Wulff, Petra Roth and Gordon Rapp addressed the invited audience. FIE President Alisher Usmanov spoke on behalf of International Fencing and honoured the Federation with a modern fencing statue.
Included in the ceremony was the presentation of the German Minister’s Sport Plaque, which is yearly awarded to only 3 clubs or federations, and the appreciation of 3 still existing clubs, founding members of the German Fencing Federation in 1911.
