Italy has been the dominant country of the European Fencing Championships in Leipzig so far. The men’s foil team took the fifth gold medal for the Italian team. European Individual Champion Andrea Baldini, silver medalist Valerio Aspromonte as well as Andrea Cassara and Giorgio Avola defeated the Russian foil team with Artem Sedov, Alexey Khovansky, Alexey Cheremisino and substitute Renal Ganeev (45:33). So the remake of the last European final brought the same end: Italy defended this team title in men’s foil clearly.
After the fourth place in Plovdiv 2009 the British foil team with Edward Jefferies, Richard Kruse, Laurence Halsted and Marcus Mepstead surprised with a 44:37-victory over Poland (Pawel Kawiecki, Leszek Rajski, Radoslaw Glonek and Marcin Zawada). It was the second bronze medal after the third place from Richard Kruse in men’s individual foil competition for the British team.
