The Italians overwhelmed everyone else tooking gold, silver and one bronze medal. The only non-Italian fencer in the semi final Victor Sintes was whiped out by Cassara who appeared
The women's epee competition on the contrary was dominated by Romanian and Chinese athletes. In both of the semifinals matches the Romanian girl fenced against Chinese. Despite the fact that both of the Romanians were a few seconds from the victory the Chinese amazingly turn the matches on their side and fought final match against each other. The world champion in the women's epee category became Li Na (CHN) defeating Yujie Sun (CHN) 13:7. Both bronze medals took Romanian fencers Ana Branza and Anca Maroiu. The women's epee is the only category Italians not having their athlete in the final eight.
