The women’s sabre team of the Ukraine defended the European title against Russia. In a new edition of the final of 2009 Galyna Pundyk, Olga Kharlan, Olena Khomrova and Olga Zhovnir beat Ekaterina Diatchenko, Julia Gavrilova , Sophia Velikaia and Svetlana Kormilitsyna 45:38. It is the first gold medal for the Ukraine in this European Fencing Championships in Leipzig. "We were very angry because our individual competition was not good for all of us four. So we wanted to make it much better with the team and we wanted to defend the title", Olena Khomrova said.
The women’s sabre team of Hungary missed the bronze medal with a tiny little deficit. They lost the “small final” 44:45 against Italy. So Ilaria Bianco, Irena Vecchi, Gioia Marzocca and Alessandra Lucchino took the third bronze medal to the very successful Italians. And Hungary had to be content with the fourth place like one year ago. So all in all there are the same medalists than after the sabre team competition during the last European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
