European Fencing Championships 2011 - Confirmed Entries Online Now
The European Fencing Championship 2011 incorporating the IWAS European Wheelchair Championships 2011 begins tomorrow at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
The city will welcome an astonishing 605 competitors (404 able-bodied, 201 wheelchair) from over 30 different countries. Men’s Epee boasts the largest entry of 104 athletes in the able-bodied competition with Men’s Epee (Cat A), the largest of the wheelchair competitions with 32 fencers competing for the European title.
Sheffield is proud to be welcoming all of the competitors and delegations to the city which this week celebrates the 20th anniversary of hosting the World University Games. Yuri Matischen, President of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, today said, “This event once again provides a huge economic boost to the city and is a direct benefit of the country staging the Olympic and Paralympic Games next year. It also provides Sheffield with another opportunity to promote itself throughout Europe to some of the highest net worth individuals. We look forward to seeing some of the worlds finest Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls in our city and wish them all the best.”
