Limbach, Nicolas Reshetnikov, Veniamin Vezzali, ValentinaThe reigning world champion, Nicolas Limbach, is under the last four in the male individual sabre competition of the European Fencing Championship in Leipzig, Germany.
The 25 year old German from Dormagen has done a great competition so far. After a tiny little weak period in the pool round he especially convinced in the quarter final against the Defending European Champion Veniam Reshetnikov from Russia – for most of the fans and fencers in the Leipzig arena it was the final, not just a quarterfinal.
The German audience on his side Limbach demonstrated with a 15:12-victory over Reshetnikov that he has got only one goal: “I’m the reigning world champion, so I want to go for gold. And everything else would be a great disappointment for me”, he said. Limbach will meet Oleg Shturbabin from Ukraine in the semi final, which starts at 17:55. The second fight between Bolade Apithy from France and Alexey Yakimenko from Russia starts at 17:40.
The defending champion of men's competition is out of the tournament, but the champion in female individual foil is on the way to defend her title. Valentina Vezzali from Italy did her way into the round of the last 4. She will compete Inna Deriglazova from Russia at 17:00. After that Elisa di Francisca from Italy will fight against Eigyenia Lamonova from Russia.
