The team of China gained the title of world champion in the category of men's foil. The incredible final match happened in the Grand Palace in Paris. After tactically guided beginning of the match, Italy got ahead the China and sustain their lead up to the last match. Italy was leading 40 to 36 then Lei Sheng (CHN) stood against Andrea Baldini (ITA) and declassed him 9:3 securing with his performance the first gold for China. In the semi final match Japan faced Russia gaining their second bronze medal in the championship.
