The 2026 Competitive Year Continues
Finally Back on the Piste
With the first competitions of 2026 starting today, 9 January, European fencing officially resumes after the winter break. This weekend marks the continuation of the season, as athletes return to the piste refreshed, focused, and ready to turn their goals for the new year into action.
The European Fencing Confederation wishes all fencers, coaches, referees, and delegations a confident restart, strong performances, and a successful competitive year ahead.
Cadet Circuits Across Europe
The new season begins with an intense Cadet Circuit weekend across three European countries. In Šamorín, Slovakia, cadet épée fencers — women and men — compete from 9 to 11 January in individual and team events, marking the first international Cadet Circuit of the year.

At the same time, Poznań hosts the Cadet Circuit in women’s foil on 10 and 11 January, where individual and team competitions promise strong participation and early-season excitement.
Meanwhile, Segovia welcomes cadet sabre fencers of both genders, also competing in individual and team events, continuing a tradition of high-level fencing in a unique historic setting.
Eurofence League in Berlin
Alongside the Cadet Circuits, Berlin opens the 2026 competitive year with the Eurofence League. On 10 and 11 January, épée competitions for women and men of all categories will offer athletes an early opportunity to test their form and begin the new season under competitive conditions.

As the first referees’ calls echo through the halls and the first points of the season are scored, the EFC sends its warmest wishes to everyone stepping onto the piste this weekend. May 2026 bring growth, confidence, and success — and may this opening chapter be the start of a strong and memorable fencing year.
