Day two at the European Cup of Club Champions: SES Sion and Team Bulgaria Reign Victorious

The European Cup of Club Champions in Cagliari showcased the best of team competitions in men's epee and women's saber. The crowd was treated to the national anthems of Switzerland and Bulgaria, as they celebrated the triumphs of SES Sion in the men's saber event and Team Bulgaria in the women's saber category.
The men’s epee competition showcased a high level of technical skill. Ultimately, it was the Swiss team SES Sion, composed of Nicolas Albercht, Alexis Bayard, Lucas Malcotti, and Clement Metrailler, who emerged victorious. With skill and determination, they defeated the French team from Saint Maur with a score of 45-35 in the final. Notably, the French team featured Romain Cannone, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, alongside Hyppolite Bouillot, Clement Dorigo, and Sigfried Robin.
The battle for the bronze medal saw the Italian team Fiamme Oro, represented by Valerio Cuomo, Davide Di Veroli, Simone Mencarelli, and Andrea Santarelli, prevail. They showcased their prowess and secured a convincing victory against the Spanish team Sala D'Armes Valencia, composed of Paul Allegre, Manuel Bargues, Alvaro Ibañez, and Juan Pedro Romero, with a score of 45-32. Fiamme Oro bounced back after their defeat in the semifinals against the Swiss SES Sion.
Shifting the focus to the women's saber competition, it was Team Bulgaria who claimed the title. The team, comprising of Yoana Ilieva (bronze medalist at the Milan World Championships), Olga Hramova, Belaslova Ivanova, and Emma Neikova, emerged victorious in the final with a score of 45-37 against the Spanish Club de Esgrima El Oso y El Madroño. The Spanish team, led by Lucia Martin Porgues, Maria Ventura, and Celia Perez Cuenca, put up a valiant fight but fell short.
In the battle for the third-place finish, the Italian teams Aeronautica Militare (Michela Battiston, Alessia Di Carlo, Rebecca Gargano, and Claudia Rotili) and Fiamme Gialle (Benedetta Fusetti, Carlotta Fusetti, Manuela Spica, and Irene Vecchi) competed vigorously. Aeronautica Militare emerged victorious with a score of 45-34. Notably, this tournament marked a positive comeback for Irene Vecchi, who returned to competitive fencing after her maternity leave.
The European Cup of Club Champions in Cagliari will conclude tomorrow with the two foil competitions. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am, with the final set for 5 pm. Fencing enthusiasts eagerly await the thrilling conclusion of this prestigious tournament.
