DOUBLE FOIL GOLD FOR RUSSIA ON DAY SIX

World Championships 2021 Report – Day 6 Team Foil

Day six of the Cadet & Junior World Championships saw the conclusion of the foil events with Russia going for gold in both the men’s and women’s Junior Foil team finals.

In the women’s event Russia (Anaschenkova, Bikbulatova & Malysheva with Kononova in reserve) trailed the USA (Scruggs, Tieu & Weintraub with Rhodes in reserve) in the gold medal match until the seventh leg.  Bikbulatova came on to draw things level before Anaschenkova sealed the World title 45-43. 

Ukraine (Budenko, Poloziuk & Sopit with Petrova in reserve) took the women’s bronze medal, beating Romania (Corbu, Dinca & Vasile with Sofran in reserve) 45-29 in the play-off.

The men’s final also saw Russia (Barannikov, Kozlov & Kravtsov with Martynovich in reserve) face the USA (Bravo, Olivares & Zhang with Daniel in reserve) for gold.  The Russians led from the start and sealed a comfortable 45-35 to take the World title.

France (De Belval, Roger & Spichiger with Castanie in reserve) beat the Poland (Bem, Jakubowski & Podralski with Dolzycki in reserve) 45-40 in the bronze medal play-off.

The epee competition begins tomorrow.
