ECH BASEL: DAY FOUR
Competition
The fourth day of the European Fencing Senior Championships in Basel, Switzerland, showcased the intense competition and exceptional skill in the team events of women’s epee and men’s foil.
In the women’s epee, Italy triumphed with an outstanding performance from Mara Navarria, Alberta Santuccio, Rossella Fiamingo, and Giulia Rizzi, clinching the gold. Hungary secured the silver medal, thanks to the efforts of Tamara Gnam, Blanka Virág Nagy, Kinga Dekany, and Eszter Muhari. France, represented by Alexandra Louis Marie, Coraline Vitalis, Marie-Florence Candassamy, and Auriane Mallo-Breton, demonstrated resilience to take home the bronze. Interestingly, this year’s podium mirrored that of last year's European Championships, where France took gold, Hungary silver, and Italy bronze.
The men’s foil competition saw France emerge victorious with Maxime Pauty, Maximilien Chastanet, Julien Mertine, and Enzo Lefort leading the charge to claim the coveted gold, improving on their second-place finish from last year. Hungary continued their strong showing in the championships, earning another silver medal through the efforts of Gergely Toth, Daniel Dosa, Gergo Szemes, and Andor Istvan Mihályi. Italy rounded out the podium with a bronze, with notable performances by Tommaso Marini, Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, and Alessio Foconi.
Tomorrow promises more excitement with the team competitions of women’s sabre and men’s epee. Stay tuned for more thrilling action from Basel!
