The European Fencing Senior Championships concluded today in Basel, Switzerland, with exciting team competitions in the women’s foil and men’s sabre categories, showcasing the continent's top fencing talent.
Italy triumphed in the women’s foil, securing the gold medal in a fierce competition. The Italian team, consisting of Francesca Palumbo, Martina Favaretto, Alice Volpi, and Arianna Errigo, demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, overpowering their opponents throughout the tournament. Poland claimed the silver medal with a strong performance from Martyna Synoradzka, Hanna Lyczbinska, Julia Walczyk-Klimaszyk, and Martyna Jelińska. The Hungarian team, featuring Dora Lupkovics, Flora Pasztor, Kata Kondricz, and Aida Mohamed, earned the bronze medal, adding to their country's impressive medal tally.
Hungary emerged victorious in the men’s sabre competition, with a stellar display by Csanad Gemesi, Aron Szilagyi, Tamas Decsi, and Krisztian Rabb. Their victory underscored Hungary's strong tradition in sabre fencing and their dominance in this event. Romania took home the silver medal, with impressive efforts from Matei Cidu, Radu Nitu, Vlad Covaliu, and Razvan Ursachi. Türkiye secured the bronze, thanks to the formidable skills of Muhammed Furkan Kalender, Enver Yildirim, Tolga Aslan, and Furkan Yaman.

The final medal standings reflected the competitive spirit and high skill level displayed throughout the championships. Italy and France topped the charts with Italy earning a total of 11 medals, including 4 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. France closely followed with 8 medals, consisting of 4 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze.
Hungary also had a remarkable championship, finishing with 6 medals: 1 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze, including today's impressive gold in men's sabre. Spain, Estonia, Poland, and Romania each had notable performances, adding to the diversity and excitement of the event. Spain secured 4 medals with 1 gold and 3 bronze, while Estonia took home 1 gold. Ukraine earned 2 silver medals, and Poland garnered 3 medals, including 1 gold and 2 silver. Romania concluded with 1 silver medal. Switzerland, the host nation, won 2 bronze medals. The Czech Republic and Great Britain each earned 1 bronze medal. Türkiye ended with 1 bronze medal as well.
