FRANCE DOMINATE WOMEN’S SABRE EURO FINAL

WOMEN’S TEAM SABRE REPORT
Number one seeds, France claimed the Women’s Team Foil gold medal on the last day of the European Fencing Championships in Antalya, Turkey.
Sara Balzer, Sarah Noutcha, Caroline Queroli and Malina Vongsavady beat Germany 45-39 to make the semi-finals where they faced Ukraine. Yulia Bakastova, Olga Kharlan, Olena Kravatska and Olena Vorinina came close but in the end France progressed 45-43.
Italy came through the bottom of the draw beating host nation Turkey 45-40 and Hungary 45-38 to make the gold medal match.
Hungary (Sugar Battai, Renata Katona, Liza Pusztai and Luca Szucs) faced Ukraine for bronze. Ukraine made it to the podium winning 45-41.
Vongsavady was in reserve for France whilst Italy lined up with Michela Battiston, Martina Criscio and Rosella Gregorio with Eloisa Passaro in reserve. France were dominant throughout leading 15-7 after three legs and 30-14 after six. Noutcha, Queroli and Balzer finished the match off as they started, taking gold 45-23.
