EFC takes first step in major digital transformation

The European Fencing Confederation has officially launched a call for proposals to redesign its website, a move that marks the beginning of a broader effort to modernize its digital identity and improve communications across the European fencing community.

Announced by EFC President Pascal Tesch, the initiative was among the commitments made during his election campaign and is now becoming a reality. “I promised to review the website during my campaign—it’s a key strategic element that will serve as both a tool for the EFC and a resource for members and fencing enthusiasts,” he noted, underlining the importance of this next step.

The future platform is intended to become a central hub for the European fencing ecosystem, offering live results, rankings, event calendars, athlete and federation profiles, as well as institutional news. In addition, it will include digital tools that support both sporting and administrative operations. Accessibility and responsiveness remain key priorities, with the new site expected to comply fully with GDPR and WCAG 2.2 standards, ensuring it is inclusive and secure for all users.

To bring this vision to life, the EFC is inviting experienced web development teams to submit their proposals. The call is specifically addressed to vendors with a strong background in frontend development using frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular, and a demonstrated understanding of the operational needs of international, multilingual sports institutions.

Applicants must provide a clear technical approach, a structured development timeline, transparent cost breakdowns, and relevant examples of past work. All proposals must be submitted in PDF format via email no later than 15 May 2025. The deadline for submitting questions or requests for clarification is set for 1 May. The selection process will be led by Julian Seidl, EFC project manager for the new website and former webmaster, who will coordinate the evaluation and guide the implementation together with the  EFC team marketing and promotion team lead by Vincenzo de Bartolomeo. The selected agency will also be responsible for onboarding and training EFC staff on the new system.

This open call represents a rare opportunity to shape the future of digital fencing in Europe, supporting the EFC’s mission to serve athletes, federations, and fans with clarity, innovation, and accessibility.
