Giovanni Malagò Re-Elected Head of Italian Olympic Committee

EFC President Stanislav Podzniakov extends his warmest congratulations to Giovanni Malagò who was elected as President of CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee, for the third time, this morning.

Speaking shortly after his re-election, Malagò said, “I will put all my efforts into giving back the trust I received from everyone that voted for me. In this particularly difficult moment, I would like to honor the world of sport. I made a commitment and I want to honour the promises that I have given. For me, being the CONI President is the most beautiful job in the world. You are my family and I will always be on your side.”

President Podzniakov welcomed the news saying, “On behalf of myself and everyone at the European Fencing Confederation, I send my congratulations to Giovanni Malagò as a friend and a colleague. I look forward to continuing our work together in sport especially regarding the International Olympic Movement.”

Two-time Men’s Epee World Champion Paolo Pizzo was elected to CONI’s Athletes Commission. Former Italian Fencing President Giorgio Scarso was not elected to the National Council this time.

“I would also like to congratulate Paolo Pizzo for his election. It is great for fencing to be represented within such a prestigious organization and I am positive that Paolo will succeed in his new role.” added Stanislav Pozdniakov.

Pizzo responded by saying, “I am immensely grateful to President Malagò who, in agreement with Italian Fencing Federation, made my election possible. My commitment will be total and representing our athletes is a huge honour, giving an even deeper meaning to the success I have had in my career.  Finally, I am at the disposal of the Italian sports movement and will offer the same passion and dedication that I did as an athlete.”
