This year athletes and all federal staff will fly to the Estonian capital, Tallinn from 21st to 28th February.
The first titles will be awarded on February 21 to the cadets of sabre and women's foil, and individual men's epee. The second day is the turn of male sabreurss, foilists, and epee. Cadets will finish the competitions on February 24 with the contest of the team titles. Juniors will replace the U17s from the 25th with the individual events, and then close out the event on February 28th with the team titles.
The Championships will take place inside the Tallink Tennis Centre, a huge multidisciplinary facility in the centre of Tallinn, which has already hosted the U23 European Championships in the past.
Attention to the event is high, including from local authorities. Indeed, the Major of Tallinn said: "It is a great honour for Tallinn to host the European Fencing Championships for cadets and juniors. It is important for us, that international competitions and championships of different sports are held here on a regular basis, as this enriches Tallinn's sports life. Several European and World Championships have been held here in recent years, including the U23 European championships in fencing last year. I hope that the list of major fencing competitions in Tallinn will continue to grow in the future. I would like to thank the European Fencing Confederation for giving Tallinn the opportunity to host the competitions and the Estonian Fencing Federation for organizing it! Fencing is one of the flagships of Estonian and Tallinn sports. "
Not only that, but also the Minister of Culture expressed his welcome: "Dear athletes, coaches and spectators!
I am very pleased to welcome you all to the European Junior and Cadet Championships in Tallinn. It is an honor for Estonia to organize such a high-level competition and to bring the best young fencers in Europe closer to our spectators. These young people will be our future heroes and they will certainly soon bring us joy from adult championships.
Dear athletes! We hope to offer you world-class conditions for training and competing so that you can perform at your best and be proud of the results. I also hope you will find time to experience the hospitality of Estonia and its capital Tallinn, with cultural activities in the beautiful Estonian winter.
We would like to thank the International Fencing Federation for their trust, as well as the Estonian Fencing Federation and the organizers of this competition.
Enjoy this great event, I wish you best of luck and success! "
The President of the European Fencing Confederation, Giorgio Scarso: "On my own behalf and on behalf of the entire European Fencing Confederation, I greet the athletes and their coaches, delegations and organizers of the European Cadet and Junior Championships Tallinn 2023.
I would particularly like to thank the Estonian Fencing Federation, the Estonian Government, all the institutional partners and sponsors who have chosen to support the Organising Committee, thus allowing European Fencing to have a great opportunity for visibility and sporting encounter.
In this historical moment, in fact, it is very important to look at sport as an opportunity for confrontation between Nations and as a vehicle for important social values such as respect for the opponent and for the rules.
In addition, the European Cadet and Junior Championships represent, for European Fencing, an opportunity to look to the future of our sport, having the opportunity to observe the protagonists of the coming years, the future of fencing.
For me, this is the first Championship that I will live as President of the European Confederation, and I give as an important signal the location that will host the appointment. Tallinn and Estonia in fact represent one of the most beautiful realities of European Fencing, attesting to the process of great development that the Federation of Estonia has had in recent years, as evidenced not only by the results obtained on the podiums all over the world, but also by the always positive judgments of the events they have hosted.
To the Organizing Committee, to which I reiterate the full support of the European Fencing Confederation, I address a sincere wish for good work and I congratulate you for the good things already offered in these months of preparations.
I am sure that we will live a great moment of fencing and sport!”
