In light of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) declaration that the global spread of Covid-19 has now made it a “pandemic”, the FIE Executive Committee has suspended international competitions for the next 30 days.

As a result the following events have been cancelled:

Budapest Men’s Sabre World Cup: March 20-22
Buenos Aires Men's Epee World Cup: March 20-22
St Niklaas Women's Sabre World Cup: March 20-22
Tashkent Women’s Epee World Cup: March 20-22
Junior and Cadet World Championships (Salt Lake City, Utah): April 3-11

Asian Zonal Olympic Qualifier (Seoul, Korea): April 15-16
European Zonal Olympic Qualifier (Madrid, Spain): April 18-19
Pan-American Zonal Olympic Qualifier (Panama City, Panama): April 18-19

During the 30-day suspension the FIE will contact the local organising committees and the host nation federations of the Grand Prix and World Cup events in an effort to reschedule them.

In addition the FIE will ask the International Olympic Committee to extend the Tokyo 2020 qualification period for fencing beyond 31 March.

Furthermore the US Government has implemented a travel ban from the Schengen Zone of Europe to the USA which comes into effect at midnight on Friday 13 March.  USA Fencing have announced that they are working hard with the FIE to reschedule the Junior and Cadet World Championships for later this year.

The EFC encourages everyone to follow the WHO guidance on Basic Protective Measures as well as the advice of their own government.
