A strong start to the season

The new European fencing season opened this weekend in Cluj-Napoca with the 5th edition of the Atlas Invictus Cup, part of the EFC U14 European Circuit. The competition gathered the most promising foil fencers, who delivered two intense days of fencing full of energy, ambition and remarkable performances.

Men’s foil brings Romanian victory

Saturday’s men’s foil event ended with a local celebration, as Rares Popescu of ACS Floreta TimiÈ™oara claimed the gold medal after an impressive display throughout the day. He secured Romania’s first triumph of the season in front of the home crowd, underlining the strength of the country’s youth development. The silver medal went to Hungary’s Peter Gonczol, while the bronze places were also secured by Hungarian fencers – Hunor Papp and Lorand Kosztolanyi – confirming Hungary’s depth and tradition in foil fencing.

Women’s foil sees Atlas Invictus on top

On Sunday, it was once again Romania’s turn to celebrate. This time, it was the host club ACS Atlas Invictus that provided the champion: Catrinel Dubau won the women’s foil competition, a victory that highlighted the club’s dedication to nurturing young talent. British fencer Aleksandra Pensa earned the silver medal after a strong performance, while Petra Budisin of Serbia and Savina Petrov of Bulgaria both climbed onto the third step of the podium, adding an international flavour to the day’s success.

With medals spread across several nations, the weekend in Cluj offered a taste of the future of European foil – a generation already fencing with determination and ambition.
